Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has called on the state’s All Progressives Congress stakeholders to accept the outcome of the just-concluded national convention, relying on a former governor of the state. State Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who emerged as the party’s national chairman.
According to a statement signed and made available to reporters in Lafia on Thursday, Governor Abdullahi Sule, through his chief press secretary, Ibrahim Addra, said he observed unsavory outbursts, quarrels, bitter exchanges and the use of foul and unprintable language among supporters. of Adamu and Al-Makura.
The statement noted that in addition to other aspirants from the north-central geopolitical zone, Adamu had contested the APC seat with another former governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Umaru Al-Makura, whose loyalists were unhappy with Adamu’s presidency of the party, which stoked the embers of discord in the state.
It said in part: “The outpouring of emotions at such a time is understandable but must be tamed in order to ensure the harmony, peaceful coexistence and growth of our party and the state in particular.
“This development is not only detestable but signifies a retrograde policy; the kind that divides and retards progress.
“Senators Abdullahi Adamu and Umaru Tanko Al-Makura have since accepted the outcome of the election as God’s will.
“It is common knowledge that Senator Al-Makura came to Senator Adamu’s residence to congratulate him on his victory, promising to support him to achieve victory for the party in the upcoming general election in 2023.
“So I wish to appeal for calm, especially if we profess true love and support for these two older statesmen. We should emulate them in making peace instead of bitter rivalry which is a wind evil that does no one any good.
The governor urged residents of the state, especially APC party loyalists, to remain peaceful and avoid actions that would portray Nasarawa to the rest of the country as incapable of handling the party’s victory.
