Project Officer-Catalytic Support
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Champions for an HIV-free Generation are a group of highly visible leaders and outspoken advocates for those affected and infected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The Champions Secretariat based in Gaborone, Botswana, is looking to recruit for the position of Project Officer. The position is available on a one-year renewable contract.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
Taking overall responsibility for implementation of the Catalytic Fund project in various countries in the region and will report directly to the Program Manager.
The Project Officer will specifically:
- Work with in-country partners such as Health Ministries, National AIDS Authorities and development partners in identifying country specific gaps in the HIV response qualifying for catalytic support.
- Develop needs-based and country-specific catalytic support plans and budgets.
- Work with partners in target countries to guide the development of proposals for activities/events to be supported by the Fund.
- Provide oversight of the Catalytic Support projects in the implementing countries.
- Identify areas where the Champions can use their experience and influence to bring about change in the HIV response.
- Ensure timely disbursement of financial resources to the projects.
- Schedule and implement follow-up monitoring visits to supported countries to track progress towards agreed deliverables.
- Prepare progress reports on the projects.
- Document lessons learnt and best practices arising from the projects for sharing with other participating countries and Co-Sponsors.
- Assist in the planning and preparation for the Champions country visits including in the development of issues brief/agenda for country visits by the Champions.
- Carry out any other duties as may be assigned by the relevant authority.
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelour’s Degree in Social Sciences such as Sociology,Social Work, Psychology etc
- A Master’s Degree in the relevant field will be an added advantage
- Formal training in Project Management desirable
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of 5 years work experience at project management level
- Broad knowledge of the HIV epidemic in the region
- Ability to manage complex concurrent tasks.
- Financial management skills and knowledge
- Computer literacy particularly in Microsoft Office
